The last lingering swath of snow on Showboat Headwall melted off over the holiday weekend and we have now transitioned into summer and wedding season at Ragged Mountain. The majority of our weekends are booked for private parties and weddings, but a sought after fall weekend has just recently become available! September 30, 2023 is now open for anyone looking for that gorgeous autumn setting in the mountains on their special day. Please contact our Wedding and Events Manager, Jessica at (603) 768-3166 or email weddings@raggedmountainresort.com for more information.
Our central Lakes Region location offers several vantage points where couples can share their vows overlooking the mountains and reception in Elmwood Lodge can cater to groups up to 200 individuals. Additional 2023 wedding date currently available - August 12.
Our capital improvement plan will be implemented over the next several months. These projects consist of rebuilding and relocating snowmaking guns throughout the slopes of both peaks, improved efficiencies in our snowmaking pumps and system, a new haul rope on Barnyard, additional service to both the Summit Six Express and Spear Mountain chairlifts, and some interior renovations to the Learning Center & Rental Department.

On behalf of the entire Ragged Mountain team, we would like to thank you for another memorable winter full of fun turns. Our staff overcame adversity with the challenging mild start and limited natural snow, but our quality snow surfaces and guest experience continued to be on point. The later half of the winter was astounding, as the storms stacked up and 100% of our terrain opened - you realize what makes Ragged so special and unique.

Uphill traffic is permitted, but please respect that it is 'AT YOUR OWN RISK' and there are many hazards throughout both mountains. We ask that you please be mindful that they are not patrolled.
We are now looking forward to a summer full of weddings and celebrations! So the time has come to put that last thick coat of wax on your skis and boards and put them to rest for the months to come. Grooming will continue to adjust between evenings and mornings depending on temperatures and when optimal conditions set up. We have surpassed the mid-winter mark and despite the low natural snowfall and mild temperatures we have been facing, the conditions have been very enjoyable! It seems as though we haven't faced any ice this season, just eternal packed powder or soft spring-like surface conditions. As we approach President's week you can expect more of the same. Grooming times will vary over the next week between just after close or early morning hours depending on when the snow sets up.

The crust layer that developed during the tailout of our last significant snowfall continues to be persistent in the glades and natural snow trails. Our base depths are averaging 18 - 30 inches across all trails and ski slopes. Please check our mobile app and MOUNTAIN REPORT on the website daily for the latest skiing and riding conditions.

Erik Barnes has been named general manager of Ragged Mountain ski area in New Hampshire. Barnes replaces resort industry veteran Jay Gamble who recently accepted the role of general manager at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. Both resorts are operated by Park City, Utah based Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. Barnes previously served as the vice president and general manager of Mount Snow in Dover, Vermont and brings over 20 years of mountain resort leadership experience to the role.
During his tenure at Mount Snow, Barnes held the position of ski school director and was also in charge of resort services for Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire. He was promoted to head of resort operations in 2008 which included managing ski school, the racing and training center, guest services, rental operations, and ticketing. Barnes became the vice president and general manager of Mount Snow in 2017 and oversaw operations and business development for the publicly traded Peak Resort’s flagship 600-acre ski resort along with its 18-hole championship golf course, lodging properties, and all revenue centers.
Vern Greco, CEO of Pacific Group Resorts, Inc., commented on Barnes’ arrival saying, “We’re really very fortunate to be able to bring someone with Erik’s talents and experience to Ragged Mountain. His previous general management tenure and resort leadership results in the Northeast are a great fit for us. They put him in a strong position to continue the positive momentum we have at Ragged Mountain and will ensure a seamless transition from the great work of Jay Gamble who has a big job ahead of him at Wintergreen.”
Barnes noted “With expanded snowmaking and the successful Mission: Affordable season pass program, it’s an exciting time to lead the team at Ragged Mountain as it transitions to a noteworthy mid-sized New England ski area with potential for more growth and future expansion plans.” He further explained what attracted him to the Danbury resort, “Ragged Mountain has developed an impressive track record of creating new skiers and snowboarders through the Bebe Wood Free Learn-to-Ski or Ride Program and catering to families who appreciate the mountain and its laid-back vibe. They have been doing a lot of good things here, and I am very pleased to be in a position to take Ragged Mountain to its next level of progress.”
Ragged Mountain has been honored by the National Ski Areas Association for attracting new participants to snow sports and successfully converting them from first timers to season pass holders. Families and the next generation of skiers and snowboarders have embraced Ragged Mountain for uncrowded slopes, high-speed chairlifts, and easy-to-navigate layout. The resort features two distinct peaks, 250 acres of classic New England trails, and the only detachable six-person chairlift in New Hampshire.

Our staff have been hard at work painting the Elmwood and Meetinghouse Lodges, servicing the chairlifts, and maintaining a busy wedding calendar. Just last week we installed four additional T40 snowmaking fan guns on Lower Village Green - this should substantially help snow production in one of the most vital locations on the mountain. The mountain operations team will soon be on the ski trails preparing the grounds for snowfall, how exciting!
We recently hosted the Ragged 50K endurance running race with over 250 registered racers from all over the United States. And we are planning our Harvest Party season pass holder appreciation event on Sunday, October 10 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm - be sure to mark your calendar!

Ragged Mountain Resort just wrapped up a winter season for the record books! With the unprecedented challenges of operating in the midst of a pandemic, our team rose to the occasion and provided a safe, fulfilling season of high quality skiing and snowboarding. We could not have done it without you! On behalf of all of our staff, we truly appreciate you respecting all the unique policies and logistical changes we enforced this winter. How about that RECORD-BREAKING SNOWSTORM! Ragged Mountain received the second highest recorded snowfall in the history of New Hampshire, literally one inch shy of Mount Washington's forty-nine inches in a single storm! So many fond memories from this past seasons adventures with family and friends.
As spring has sprung Mountain Operations and Ski Patrol are cleaning up Ragged and Spear peaks and putting them to rest. Ski touring is permitted, but please respect that it is 'AT YOUR OWN RISK' and there are many hazards throughout the two mountains and be mindful that they are not patrolled. We look forward to a summer full of weddings and ceremonies. The time has come to put that last thick coat of wax on your boards and put them away to rest. Many exciting new things will be happening next winter and we are thrilled to see all of your smiling faces once again at beautiful Ragged Mountain.

Dear Winter Enthusiast,
As somebody who has long been committed to an active outdoor lifestyle, particularly as a skier, I can honestly say there has never been a time when I anticipated the arrival of ski season more than this year. The magic of winter - snow silently falling, the sharp bite of winter on the face and the excitement of linking turns on every unique run are always special. This year it’s safe to say “special” could be expanded to include therapeutic. In a sense, we need this ski season for our emotional and physical well-being as much as for our enjoyment. We believe recreation is one of the essential food groups - now more than ever.
I want to share Ragged Mountain Resort’s plans for the upcoming ski season. There has been so much uncertainty since the Covid-19 pandemic first upended our lives. Among the many lessons learned are the importance of clear and consistent communication, the setting of realistic expectations, and the need for tolerance for unexpected changes.
The embrace of all these lessons is going to be critical to a successful ski season, as is the recognition we’re all in this together. A collective effort must be part of the foundation for success as we strive to balance the safety of our guests, employees and the local communities in which we operate our business.
In addition to following all CDC and local regulations, Ragged Mountain will require face coverings, will make the necessary changes to allow for physical distancing, and will closely monitor employee health including requiring employees to stay home if they are sick. Similarly, we encourage guests to not visit if they are not feeling well or have any symptoms of Covid-19. We will implement additional precautions related to ski school, rental equipment, food and beverage, and hospitality as further outlined below.
Ragged plans to open for the winter season on Friday, November 27, 2020. As always, this depends on weather, but our summer work prioritized the readiness of the snowmaking system and our hope is for an on time opening.
As you know, capacity restrictions have been one of the tools used to manage the spread of the novel corona virus. Skiing and riding at Ragged Mountain takes place on over 250 acres ensuring the opportunity to safely recreate. Nevertheless, we will adhere to any limitations imposed by State and local authorities. To what extent we might be required to limit on-mountain capacities is still unknown, however, we are confident any restrictions will be on a limited number of days and all guests will have access on the vast majority of days.
Season pass holders will be our highest priority in managing any on-mountain capacity restrictions. It is our intention to allow pass holders to ski any day the resort is open without reservations or other exceptional requirements. Our primary means to control capacity will be done by limiting the sale of daily lift tickets.
It is possible we may need to control the number of skiers, including pass holders, in the event there is limited terrain open. In such case, Ragged Mountain will implement an online advance reservation system and requirements for reservations will be communicated on the web site, via email, and on the resort app. Pass holders are strongly encouraged to download the resort app and enable push messaging. This will be the quickest and most certain way to stay abreast of changes of any kind.
Face coverings will be required to access the mountain, including in the base area, in lift lines and while loading, unloading and riding on chairlifts. Face coverings will be required in every part of our operation including inside all buildings and during all ski and snowboard lessons. We are asking everyone to support these necessary changes and cooperate with resort workers who are in the challenging role of ensuring everyone’s safety. Guests who don’t comply with the guidelines will be asked to leave.
First and foremost, we will manage the number of people on the mountain. We will do everything possible and practical to allow for physical distancing throughout the resort to help ensure a safe experience. Additionally, we will load lifts maintaining social distancing guidelines applicable to each individual lift configuration. We will also manage the number of people entering buildings including base lodges and restaurants in accordance with local guidelines. Currently the maximum number of people allowed indoors in a gathering space is about a 50% capacity since tables must be 6 feet apart with no more than 6 chairs per table. This number may change between now and the beginning of ski season or even during the season. We are working to expand areas to comfortably accommodate guests while maintaining distancing requirements and revising menus and service levels that strike a balance between safety, forced capacity limits, and reasonable hospitality. Some of the “new norms” we all have embraced over the summer - online ordering, takeout, grab-and-go and outdoor dining - will be in place for the winter.
Ski school is an important part of every mountain operation because it introduces people to the sport and helps them improve so the sport is more enjoyable. Our teaching professionals are always committed to safety and enjoyment while learning, and this season that will be highlighted more than ever. Ski and snowboard school formats will be revised to accommodate either small groups or individual self-paced learning options. Advance reservations will be required for all lessons and programs.
Children’s on-snow programs will be the subject of particular emphasis with small class sizes and minimal exposure to larger group settings.
Equipment rental will be available exclusively online with advance reservations. Pick up and drop off of equipment may be modified to accommodate social distancing and to limit the number of people in confined spaces.
There is no avoiding the fact that navigating your way around the resort will be different this winter. Compared to the alternative of no ski season, I hope you’ll agree the changes are manageable and worth any inconvenience.
Our web site, raggedmountainresort.com will be updated regularly with the latest info on restrictions and other important information. The resort app, available for both iOS or Android DOWNLOAD HERE, will be one of the best ways to stay informed through notifications and current status updates.
Advance planning and online advance purchases will be more important than ever. Most products will only be available online in advance. Knowing what to expect when you arrive will go a long way toward minimizing confusion and frustration.
Finally, for those who purchased a season pass for this year but are still uncertain about their preferences this winter, please remember there is the option to defer the use of that pass until next season:
As you can see, we are planning lots of changes with the objective of making us all safer and more comfortable this ski season. While some of the changes will be a little inconvenient, we think it is a small price to accept for safety and the opportunity to have a great season on the slopes. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely,
General Manager

Last Edited by Kyle Matzke on Monday, September 14, 2020As the traditional Yankee saying goes, July 4th marks the beginning of preparation for winter here in New England. Mid-summer is now behind us and our staff are hard at work servicing our lifts, chairs, grounds, snowmaking system and equipment.
During these unprecedented times, we are blessed to be in an industry that is based outdoors in the mountains. The abundance of birds, wildlife, along with wildflowers peaking are sentiment of what we love about beautiful Ragged Mountain! If you get the opportunity be sure to check out the SRKG - Sunapee, Ragged, Kearsarge Greenway hiking trails. Just beyond our New Hampshire Mountain Inn off of New Canada Rd. is a small parking lot to gain access. This is an awesome opportunity to exercise outdoors, safely social distance and appreciate the views Ragged Mountain has to offer.
The coronavirus has disrupted life for pretty much everyone around the world, and our resorts are among the affected operations. The corona-crisis only impacted a small portion of our season, but it was enough that some of those who purchased our Mission: Four’dable 4-packs (M:4) might not have had a chance to use all of the lift tickets included.
In the past, any unused lift tickets (including Mission: Four’dable) have expired at the end of a ski season but because of the extenuating circumstances involved with the coronavirus, we have decided to allow up to two unredeemed M:4 tickets from this season to be used next season before (or on) Dec 24, 2020. Those qualifying tickets from this year will need to be taken to the ticket office after November 1, 2020, along with your ID to be exchanged for tickets that will work next season.
Alternatively, because of the unprecedented interruptions caused by the coronavirus, up to two unredeemed M:4 tickets from this season can be appended to a new M:4 purchased for next year and may be used anytime next season. Those tickets qualifying for exchange should be taken to the ticket office after November 1, 2020, along with your ID to be added to the newly purchased M:4 for the 2020/2021 season.
The 2019/2020 season had some great conditions, and some challenges, but we managed to get in the vast majority of a normal season even with the coronavirus caused shut down. Most importantly, we noticed time and again families, friends, and even those who enjoy being solo on the slopes, enjoying the improvements at Ragged Mountain and being out in the fresh mountain air more than ever before. It’s unfortunate the coronavirus has been a major disruption for everyone, including the entire ski industry, and we hope this one-time extension of the M:4 program helps ease the inconvenience a bit.
While normally all M:4 tickets strictly expire at the end the season for which they were issued, the corona-crisis is anything but normal. Allowing the extension of up to two of the unused tickets is our way of helping you get the most out of your time on the mountain. We value you as a customer, we appreciate you as a patron, and we look forward to seeing you on the slopes at Ragged Mountain next season.
Stay healthy and ski safe!

The
coronavirus has created a number of unique challenges. One of those is
how to continue to serve our guests while also helping to protect their health
and the health of our wonderful staff. We take both the service of our
customers and the coronavirus safety concerns very seriously, so in order to
protect our employees, our guests, and our communities, we are following CDC
guidelines along with federal and state mandates for non-essential business
operations in this most unusual of times.
To
meet our dual objectives, while we are not open for normal in-person business
transactions at the resort, we are available for business online, by telephone,
or by email. We have staff working (mostly from home) who can respond to your
needs and assist you with purchases and reservations so you can enjoy the fresh
mountain air here in the not-too-distant future. Please check our website
frequently for the latest updates and answers to your questions, and contact us
if we can assist you.
We hope everyone can be safe and healthy as we all follow social distancing and stay-at-home protocols to get through this corona-crisis.
