Starting your skiing or snowboarding journey can feel overwhelming, but at Ragged Mountain Resort, we’ve designed our learning terrain to make your first turns as smooth and confidence-building as possible. Whether you’re a first-timer or helping a loved one discover the joy of snow sports, our dedicated learning area offers everything you need to progress at your own pace.

We have two magic carpets in our learning area. If you’ve never seen one, picture those moving walkways at airports, but they go uphill. You just stand on your skis and ride up. No chairlift to worry about yet.

This carpet offers the gentlest introduction to sliding on snow. Here, brand-new skiers and riders can focus entirely on the fundamentals: getting comfortable with the equipment, learning to glide, and mastering that important first skill… how to stop. The gentle pitch means you can practice without picking up too much speed, giving you complete control as you build muscle memory.

The second carpet has more of a pitch to it and runs longer. This is where you start actually skiing and riding. You’ll link a few turns, get a feel for controlling your speed, and start to understand why people love this sport. This is where it starts to all come together.

Once you’ve conquered the magic carpets and are ready for the next challenge, the Barnyard Triple chairlift opens up a world of possibility. This is where we truly believe Ragged shines. Our Barnyard Triple serves terrain that’s perfectly suited for advancing beginners. Once you’ve taken a lap or two, try skiing through our barn and spot some of the Barnyard’s season long residents.

The runs off the Barnyard Triple offer the perfect learning sweet spot. This is enough pitch to practice real turning and speed control, but gentle and wide enough to not get too overwhelmed. The terrain here allows you to put together everything you’ve learned on the carpets and start exploring what it feels like to ski or ride on actual mountain terrain.

Here’s what makes Ragged really special. Once you’ve mastered the learning terrain, you’re not done exploring. We have fantastic green runs from both of our summits, so you can experience the thrill of skiing or riding from the top of the mountain sooner than you’d think. Going  from your first turns on the magic carpet to cruising down from the summit is an incredible feeling, and we have the perfect progression to make the transition comfortable AND fun.

Our certified instructors are passionate about helping you learn to love skiing and snowboarding, and they make your time on the slopes easy, safe, and fun.

The Bebe Woods Learn to Ski/Ride Program has broken down barriers to learning with an affordable, accessible approach. This three-lesson program for first-timers ages 13 and up includes rental equipment and a lower mountain lift ticket. Complete all three lessons and you’ll earn a discounted season pass for just $79 to keep riding for the rest of the season.

Adventure Camp is where kids ages 6-12 discover their love for the mountain. Children are grouped with others at their skill level and work with skilled instructors through age-appropriate lessons and games.

Group and Private Lessons are available for all ages and ability levels.
