2021-22 Winter Season Is Underway!

Winter season 2021-22 set to start with top to bottom skiing and 30 acres of terrain

DANBURY, NEW HAMPSHIRE – Ragged Mountain Resort opens for the 2021-22 winter season Friday, December 3 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Operations continue Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am – 4:00pm and return to regular operating hours seven days per week on Monday, December 6. Top to bottom skiing will be available for all ability levels serviced by New Hampshire’s only high-speed detachable six-person chairlift and the Meadows beginner learning area. The resort plans to have 7 trails and 30 acres of skiable terrain on a base depth of 24-36” with additional terrain available as snowmaking progresses.

Erik Barnes, Ragged Mountain’s General Manager, commented on the outstanding early season conditions saying, “Our snowmaking and grooming crews have done an exceptional job in preparing the mountain. The early season mild weather was challenging, but when Mother Nature cooperated with cold temperatures and natural snowfall, we were more than ready to make snow at every possible opportunity.”

In an effort to manage the ongoing Covid-19 risk for the 2021-22 winter season, Ragged Mountain encourages all guests to follow guidelines set forth by the State of New Hampshire and local health authorities. These guidelines encourage wearing a face mask where adequate social distancing is impractical or if unvaccinated. Lifts will operate at full capacity and masks are not required while riding or waiting in lines. Guests should purchase lift tickets online in advance and utilize contactless pick-up boxes and the resort’s mobile app for food & beverage orders whenever possible. And yes, you can once again boot up in the lodges!

Early season lift ticket rates will be in effect at $65 for adults and teens, and $49 for juniors and seniors. Elmwood and Meetinghouse Lodges will be open to the public and The Learning Center will be offering private lessons only at this time. For the most up-to-date conditions, lift operations, and trail openings visit Ragged Mountain’s Snow Report. All operations are subject to weather.

Ragged Welcomes Our New General Manager - Erik Barnes

Erik Barnes has been named general manager of Ragged Mountain ski area in New Hampshire. Barnes replaces resort industry veteran Jay Gamble who recently accepted the role of general manager at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. Both resorts are operated by Park City, Utah based Pacific Group Resorts, Inc. Barnes previously served as the vice president and general manager of Mount Snow in Dover, Vermont and brings over 20 years of mountain resort leadership experience to the role.

During his tenure at Mount Snow, Barnes held the position of ski school director and was also in charge of resort services for Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire. He was promoted to head of resort operations in 2008 which included managing ski school, the racing and training center, guest services, rental operations, and ticketing. Barnes became the vice president and general manager of Mount Snow in 2017 and oversaw operations and business development for the publicly traded Peak Resort’s flagship 600-acre ski resort along with its 18-hole championship golf course, lodging properties, and all revenue centers.

Vern Greco, CEO of Pacific Group Resorts, Inc., commented on Barnes’ arrival saying, “We’re really very fortunate to be able to bring someone with Erik’s talents and experience to Ragged Mountain. His previous general management tenure and resort leadership results in the Northeast are a great fit for us. They put him in a strong position to continue the positive momentum we have at Ragged Mountain and will ensure a seamless transition from the great work of Jay Gamble who has a big job ahead of him at Wintergreen.”

Barnes noted “With expanded snowmaking and the successful Mission: Affordable season pass program, it’s an exciting time to lead the team at Ragged Mountain as it transitions to a noteworthy mid-sized New England ski area with potential for more growth and future expansion plans.” He further explained what attracted him to the Danbury resort, “Ragged Mountain has developed an impressive track record of creating new skiers and snowboarders through the Bebe Wood Free Learn-to-Ski or Ride Program and catering to families who appreciate the mountain and its laid-back vibe. They have been doing a lot of good things here, and I am very pleased to be in a position to take Ragged Mountain to its next level of progress.”

Ragged Mountain has been honored by the National Ski Areas Association for attracting new participants to snow sports and successfully converting them from first timers to season pass holders. Families and the next generation of skiers and snowboarders have embraced Ragged Mountain for uncrowded slopes, high-speed chairlifts, and easy-to-navigate layout. The resort features two distinct peaks, 250 acres of classic New England trails, and the only detachable six-person chairlift in New Hampshire.

We are officially into the fall season and the excitement for skiing and snowboarding is beginning to build! The team has done a tremendous job getting the base area the best it has looked in years and we are looking forward to sharing it with you. We have been fortunate enough to host many gorgeous weddings over the course of summer and will continue every weekend through November 6th.

WHAT'S NEW:  For the 2021-22 winter season we have improved on our snowmaking coverage and efficiency and we purchased some new equipment for mountain operations. Elmwood and Meetinghouse Lodges received exterior and interior renovations, and our F&B departments received some new appliances along with kitchen enhancements.

HARVEST PARTY POSTPONED:  Every Autumn, the Team at Ragged Mountain Resort looks forward to welcoming our valued Season Passholders to the mountain to celebrate the coming of winter, and give appreciation for their loyalty with the Annual Harvest Party.  Due to some extenuating circumstances, the Harvest Party will be rescheduled at a later date this season.  We are looking forward to a great ski season ahead, and are in full preparation mode at this time. Thank you for your understanding, and we are excited to see your smiling faces once the snow begins to fly!

Our job fairs are coming up, this is your opportunity to work where most people come to play! 2021 SUMMER PROJECTS

The middle of August is now upon us, days are starting to get shorter and believe it or not, several trees are beginning to change color on the slopes of Ragged Mountain. Our staff have been hard at work painting the Elmwood and Meetinghouse Lodges, servicing the chairlifts, and maintaining a busy wedding calendar. Just last week we installed four additional T40 snowmaking fan guns on Lower Village Green - this should substantially help snow production in one of the most vital locations on the mountain. The mountain operations team will soon be on the ski trails preparing the grounds for snowfall, how exciting!

We recently hosted the Ragged 50K endurance running race with over 250 registered racers from all over the United States. And we are planning our Harvest Party season pass holder appreciation event on Sunday, October 10 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm - be sure to mark your calendar!

2021-22 Mission: Affordable XTRA Season Passes are available NOW for $499 until October 10th. Make the wise decision and invest in yourself - enjoy skiing and riding with us this winter with one of the most affordable season passes in all of New England!

The last patch of snow has now melted off of Wild Side, is anyone else missing turns on our perfect corduroy yet? We are now in the midst of a stacked wedding calendar and we have hosted some tremendous gatherings lately. Just this past weekend we had 105 guests from throughout the Northeast, isn't it refreshing to comfortably gather once again? The weekend of September 25th is now available if you or a loved one may be looking for that perfect venue to host their special day. Please contact our Wedding Coordinator, Rachel at (603) 768-3166 to inquire.

Our team has recently been busy with state inspections on the Spear Mountain Express, servicing snowmaking pumps and motors, freshening up and painting the Red Barn of Elmwood Lodge. Preparation is ongoing for ski season and our crew is looking forward to an exciting, normal winter ahead. We will be hosting our Harvest Party season pass holder appreciation event on Sunday, October 10 - be sure to pencil it in your calendar.

2020 - 21 Winter Operations Are Now Closed For The Season

Ragged Mountain Resort just wrapped up a winter season for the record books! With the unprecedented challenges of operating in the midst of a pandemic, our team rose to the occasion and provided a safe, fulfilling season of high quality skiing and snowboarding. We could not have done it without you! On behalf of all of our staff, we truly appreciate you respecting all the unique policies and logistical changes we enforced this winter. How about that RECORD-BREAKING SNOWSTORM! Ragged Mountain received the second highest recorded snowfall in the history of New Hampshire, literally one inch shy of Mount Washington's forty-nine inches in a single storm! So many fond memories from this past seasons adventures with family and friends.

As spring has sprung Mountain Operations and Ski Patrol are cleaning up Ragged and Spear peaks and putting them to rest. Ski touring is permitted, but please respect that it is 'AT YOUR OWN RISK' and there are many hazards throughout the two mountains and be mindful that they are not patrolled. We look forward to a summer full of weddings and ceremonies. The time has come to put that last thick coat of wax on your boards and put them away to rest. Many exciting new things will be happening next winter and we are thrilled to see all of your smiling faces once again at beautiful Ragged Mountain.
