Great End to a Great Weekend!

Bump n' Jump was a great way to end our weekend here at Ragged Mountain. A bunch of skiers came out to throw down some old school tricks, dressed in vintage attire! There were plenty of Daffys, Spread Eagles, and Screamin' Seamens to go around. A huge thank you our competitors, our Park Crew, and of course our sponsors: Zimmerman's, Rossignol, and Henniker Brewing Company. Without all of you, this event could not have been such a huge success.

Be sure to join us next week for our annual Spring Fling. Our official "End of The Season Bash" will feature plenty of skiing and riding, a Flying Goose Promotion, BBQ and Live Music from SHARK MARTIN on the bricks, plus a huge Pond Skim. Come join us to celebrate a great season. Looking forward to next weekend!

Don't forget to get your MISSION: AFFORDABLE 2017 - 18 Pass. This All-Ages, NO BLACK OUT DATES Pass is only $249 if purchased by April 2nd. Full price in the fall will be $449, so don't miss out!

Looking Forward to NH Winter Break After a Great President's Day Week

Following a few days of freeze / thaw, we had a pretty stellar day! Our groomers worked to make sure that we had some great terrain for skiers and riders of all skill levels.

Early in the day, the Barnyard was host to a number of Bebe Wood lessons and some folks taking lessons, improving on their fundamentals. The Spear Mountain Express opened this morning to a bunch of smiling faces enjoying the sun on Cardigan and Flying Yankee.

After the wind died down, we opened up the Summit Six Pack where both Exhibition and Birches were skiing great for advanced skiers and riders.

Be sure to #thankagroomer the next time you're up here with us to #getragged. A big thank you to our team of groomers!

This week should bring plenty of more fun on the hill for everyone enjoying NH winter break.

Current Status Due to Freeze / Thaw

The past few days have certainly made for some interesting, and fun skiing. The groomers are out right now getting trails back in shape for some fun skiing and riding.

We are currently opening Barnyard and Spear Peaks as usual. The groomers will then make their way across Ragged Peak, and patrol will open those trails in stages. The 6-pack will be on a wind hold this morning and we will reevaluate as the day progresses.

On Sunday, the New Hampshire State U16 Slalom Qualifiers was held over on Showboat, and the turnout could not have been better. Actually, you’re the one who really wins because you get more smiles per dollar – more terrain, smaller lift lines, and high speed lifts covering 100% of the terrain at Ragged Mountain.

53 Trails and over 18 inches this week!

Mother Nature has jumped on board this week, helping to make our Mission even better! It’s been snowing like crazy, and ski patrol has been opening more of Ragged Mountain’s finest gladed terrain all week. This week brought 6 inches of new snow on Tuesday and another 13 inches on Thursday. That has brought our trail count up to 53, including the bowl between Ragged and Spear Peaks. Now it looks like there is even more in the immediate forecast. The skiing and riding this weekend is going to be amazing!

The Terrain Park Team has been re-sculpting the lower half of our park all week and have 13 new features ready for some fun this weekend. Make sure to check out the new wall ride.

Between the trees, the beautifully groomed trails, and a bomber new park, there is a lot to get psyched for this week.

New Terrain Thanks to Winter Storm Jupiter

Winter Storm Jupiter swept through New England this past Wednesday leaving us with just over 8 inches of new snow, and conditions have been great! Following the storm, we have been able to open some of our glades like Moose Alley, Devil's Den, and Tree Hugger. In total, we were able to open up another 9 trails, and we're not stopping there. Our snowmakers have been hard at work, blowing snow on Upper and Lower Exhibition.

In addition to opening up some of our glades, our Park Staff has been working hard the past few days to get the terrain parks built for the upcoming weekend. This past week, we opened up a handful of features in both the Wild Side and Wanna Be Wild terrain parks. Be sure to head over and thank our hard working staff for keeping landings clear and making sure take offs are nice and crispy.

Be sure to buy your tickets online in advance and save. Follow this link to buy now! Chuck n John will be joining us in the Stone Hearth Bar for some live music, so grab a snow pizza and a pint of Lord Hobo's Boom Sauce, then come enjoy some great tunes. Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

After an Amazing MLK Weekend, Up Next Is SNOW!

This weekend was an all out celebration of good times with friends, family and of course skiing and snowboarding! Thanks to our amazing team of snowmakers and groomers our trails were in tip top shape, even after the rain and warm temps last week.

The only thing that could make the conditions any better here would be some snow. Evening forecasts for the area are calling for 7 inches of the good stuff! We'll be sure to update the snow report first thing tomorrow with our totals.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month and all across the country ski areas are offering great programs for first time skiers and snowboarders. This year with our Mission: Affordable we decided to offer a season long Free Learn to Ski & Ride program, The Bebe Wood program! Just this past weekend we had 24 graduates who after taking their 3 Free Lessons, which included lower mountain lift tickets and brand new rental equipment from Rossignol, were able to purchase a season's pass for only $69 good for the remainder of the 16/17 season! Graduates can also take more lessons to keep improving on their skills for only $29 per lesson, and purchase either a new snowboard or ski package for only $299 for adults or $199 for kids, compliments of Ragged Mountain Resort and Rossignol! Learn more about this great program at learntoskifree.com

Celebrating 2017 at Ragged Mountain

One couldn’t ask for a better day to celebrate the start of the New Year. 2017 has so far brought clear skies and great conditions, and everyone has come out to enjoy it.

Sport Thoma’s Demo Day has folks out trying new skis! Remember that all Season Pass Holders receive 10% off retail pricing at Sport Thoma.

One of our long time locals, Mark Sullivan was out today enjoying the New Year. He was proudly sporting his pine bow. Everyday Mark finds a new one which he tucks under his goggle strap, skis all day long with it, and at night places it in his wood stove as a sacrifice to the snow gods! Mark, we are with you on this one. Keep making your sacrifices and we’ll happily keep skiing fresh snow!

Wishing you all a Happy New Year,

-The Staff at Ragged Mountain Resort.

A Great Pow Day at Ragged Mountain!

Everything came together today in such great fashion.

Early this morning as the sun crept above Ragged Peak and guests started pulling into the parking lot, it was obvious that this would be a good day. Many found their way through the trees, while others took the time to cruise on the groomers. Some took a lesson for the first time, while others looked to take their skills to the next level. Families and friends came together, and the stoke was high! We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow for another great day.

Ragged Mountain Named Winner In the 2016-17 Best in Snow Awards, Powered by Liftopia

Ragged Mountain has been recognized as one of the Beginner Friendly and Family Friendly ski areas in the North East, winning a 2016-17 Best in Snow Award, Powered by Liftopia.

The 2016-17 Best in Snow Awards, Powered By Liftopia, are the pre-eminent rankings of the best and most beloved ski areas in North America. Unlike other rankings, this list is the only one that incorporates the largest dataset in the industry combined with feedback from thousands of skiers and snowboarders to determine ski areas they are most passionate about.

To compile the awards, Liftopia surveyed their customers to measure their enthusiasm on specific aspects of their favorite resorts such as family friendliness, challenging terrain, crowds, and snow consistency and quality. More than 10,000 responses were then weighted with a proprietary algorithm based on Liftopia’s exclusive dataset that includes resorts’ total visits per season, acreage and average lift ticket prices to surface the best ski areas overall, across seven categories and five regions, based on what matters most to skiers and snowboarders.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this survey who voted for Ragged Mountain Resort!

The Most Wonderful Time of Year

Enjoy “the most wonderful time of the year” at Ragged Mountain with three Holiday Wonders this weekend!

Wonder #1

No wonder we’re excited for the holidays.  With the natural snow we’ve received, more snow in the forecast for this weekend, and our snow guns blazing whenever the weather is right, our trail count continues to grow. We’re opening terrain almost daily – Village Green, Upper Chutes, Main Street and Raggae Glades all opened in the past week – and by this weekend another 7 trails should be ready to open, including Headwall, New Found Ridge, Upper Ridge, Sunnyside.

Ticket prices will increase on Saturday due to opening more terrain. Tickets will be $59 for adults and $49 for kids, plus our NH Resident Half Day ticket will start this Sunday!

Wonder #2

In the spirit of holiday giving, on Saturday the 17th when you bring 5 non-perishable items with you to donate to the Danbury Food Pantry, you’ll receive 50% off your lift ticket. (Limit one per person, only valid on 12/17/16).  And, there’s more magic going on at Ragged Mountain this weekend than just great skiing and riding!

Wonder #3

On Saturday the 17th, please join us for a wonderful Tree Lighting Ceremony starting at 4 pm.   There will be caroling, free hot cocoa, and S’mores out by the fireplace, all before we light the tree around 5pm. And, afterwards, come join us in the Stone Hearth Bar or the Birches Mountain Restaurant for great holiday inspired dinner specials.

On Sunday, Santa will be hosting a breakfast at the New Hampshire Mountain Inn, located just five minutes from Ragged Mountain on New Canada Road in Wilmot, NH. Breakfast will be served from 8 am to 11 am.  Adults are $15 and children are $5. Reservations are required. Please call the New Hampshire Mountain Inn at 888-797-2899 to reserve.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE WHOLE CREW AT RAGGED MOUNTAIN!  We hope to see you here!

Getting Ready For Opening Day!

The recent snowfall across the state caused quite the buzz, and we couldn't help but get a little excited ourselves! With favorable overnight temperatures, we've kept the snowguns running full tilt in preparation for our rapidly approaching opening day. *UPDATE* Due to the heavy rain fall, we will be opening a little later than originally planned. Check our website and on social media for updates.

Fan gun blowing snow

Our snowmaking team has been hard at work setting up guns on Chutes and Village Green in order to make certain we've got a great selection of terrain for all skiers and riders when the time comes to hit the slopes.

Snow guns on Chutes

We’re also excited to announce that our Bison has awoken from its summer hibernation and has returned to the mountain! Freshly serviced and newly re-tracked, it’s ready to keep things nicely manicured on the slopes.

Snow groomer

If you're a season's pass holder we encourage you to come up to the mountain prior to opening day in order to pick up your pass. We don't want anything to keep you from carving some turns or catching some air. Have your photo taken early so you can hop directly on the lift come opening day! Guest Services is now open seven days a week from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM for season’s pass pickup.

Looking forward to skiing with you all this season! Think snow!

The Lower Snowmaking Pond Expansion is COMPLETE!

Back in late September, we brought you exciting news regarding the expansion of our lower snowmaking pond, increasing overall storage capacity by more than 20 million gallons. Construction on the pond finished earlier this week!

SM Pond 4

Mother Nature must not be able to contain her excitement for us either, as immediately following the completion she gifted us steady rainfall! We are also thankful to the state of New Hampshire DES who has granted us a one-time fill permit, allowing us to fill the pond with water from the Bog Pond. This should help Mother Nature out and give her some time to focus on the resource we need the most this season -- snow!

We're Expanding the Lower Snowmaking Pond!

If you've been up to the mountain over the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed a bunch of machinery and construction fencing going up across from the intersection of New Canada road and Ragged Mountain Road. We are happy to announce that we received our alteration of terrain permit this week and have immediately begun construction on a large scale project to increase our water storage capacity.  The machinery has started to rumble and large back loaders are currently digging into what will be the expansion of the snowmaking pond located on the old golf course.

Bucket Loader

"We’re very excited that this project has started”, shared Ryan Schramm, General Manager. “This expansion will add 20 million gallons to the current 4 million gallon pond allowing us to more readily open terrain in the early season, and help out Mother Nature when we need to.”  The new 24 million gallon pond will feed into the existing 10 million gallon pond at the base of the mountain.

Along with the expansion of the snowmaking pond we have installed several new pipes on key trails this summer, creating a more efficient system so our team can make snow on beginner terrain that is essential in the early season. We’re all still going to be doing our snow dance this year to appease Ullr and the other snow gods, but we also want to stack the odds in our favor, just in case our dance isn’t enough.

Getting Ready for Winter

The Leaves Are Changing and We're Getting Ready for Winter!

The view from our offices here at Ragged Mountain Resort has certainly gotten more colorful this past week. In only a matter of days the sea of green out our windows has begun to show hints of red, orange, and yellow. The mornings are crisp, and the afternoons couldn't be more beautiful.

For many, fall marks the start of school and getting back into the normal rhythm of the day to day. But for us, this time of year is when we start kicking into full gear, making sure that updates to our facilities are done, and the areas of improvement needed are being addressed. For Al and his team on Mountain Ops this means making sure that our snowmaking system is as efficient as it can be.

Monday we received a shipment of 2000 feet of new snowmaking pipe to help improve the efficiency of our snowmaking on Chutes and Lower Chutes. This will allow our team to more readily make snow on an important easier trail during the early days of the season. For those of us who appreciate a good fall project, this has been one that our snowmaking team has been looking forward to for a while. Snowmaking is a tough job, so anything that can make the task easier and help deliver snow where you want it, when you want it, is much appreciated. We hope this winter you'll take a few turns down Chutes and think of our guys working hard this fall.

Good Morning Skiers and Riders

Today, temps are expected to reach the mid 50's with a chance of liquid precipitation later in the day. We kept the groomers off the hill last night to preserve the snow, but I bet you can still find some soft corduroy from yesterday's grooming. So bring an extra dry layer and enjoy the spring conditions!

Have you checked out our online ticket prices? Purchase tickets as low as $19!!!
